President’s Message

By Selso Mata, AIA, CBO, City of Plano, and BOAT President

Welcome to the New Year! A lot has already happened in 2017. The country has a new President. Our Cowboys gave us a great season of memories, but were just a couple of games short of the big prize. There is a chill in the air as winter is hitting parts of the country in full force. Texas is lucky. It’s 77 degrees as I write this, but tomorrow it will be 53 degrees with showers. Change is inevitable, but we keep going on – and BOAT does too with some great plans for this year. Come join us! Here is a list of events planned for 2017:

17th Houston, Tx BPI
February 20-23

25th Arlington, Tx BPI
May 22-26

2017 BOAT Annual Conference
Hilton Rockwall Lakefront
Rockwall
August 8-11

5th Central Texas BPI
TBA

4th Brownsville, Tx BPI
November 8-9

The State Legislature is also in session. BOAT is on bill watch to help with any issues that may arise that could affect the way cities do business.

We have plans to create a summer internship program for college students in construction careers. Our goal is to encourage and provide a summer job in a city building inspection department.

Also, we have added a Career Development Day at the BOAT Annual Conference in Rockwell. We are planning lots of events this year!

So stay tuned. and let us know if we can help you with any questions, legislative concerns, or education.

BOAT and you, together we are “Building a Safe Texas!”
